Active learning is learning which ensures that the children are involved in the process. Active learning involves the children experimenting, choosing items to play with, and being fully involved in their activity.
In order for learning to be active, the environment has to be right. Learning indoors and outdoors at Twinkly Tots is such that the children are provided with lots of resources to choose from. Active learning creates an opportunity for teachers to observe the children in their play, children are free to ask questions. Children are able to extend their play into a different topic, they are also able to demonstrate critical thinking skills while actively learning. This learning involves children moving around, talking about what they are doing, offering solutions to problems encountered during play, thinking of alternative ways of doing things.
Children take their time in active learning, they have full concentration and they can choose to be on the same activity for a very long time. To get the most out of active learning at Twinkly Tots, we simply provide the environment, provide resources, create space, and encourage the children to engage actively.
